The Phoenix Keeper and the City of the Sun - Review

The Phoenix Keeper and the City of the Sun is a new urban fantasy novel from Canadian author Margarita Artista. It delves into the life of Seraphine Pierre as she navigates life as a fresh college student in a new city. But a wealthy and aloof Felix Clarkson enters her life, a mixture of cold and fire, and she is inexorably drawn into his world of dreams, magic, and mythical creatures.

I loved the characterization of both Felix and Seraphine as they clash over their differences, even as their lives become intertwined. Their personal conflict and attraction play out with a host of supporting figures that shed light on their motivations. The magic is unique and well realized, and we get seeped in it gradually as Seraphine discovers her new role and what it entails.

This is the first installment in The Phoenix Keeper Series, and the author sets us up with intriguing questions and expectations for the upcoming books. I’m looking forward to seeing where Seraphine and Felix end up next!
