Artist's Statement

Geoff Busbridge ~ Artist's Statement

I can’t stop telling stories. I have at least six running through my mind, always. I turn pain, depression, and uncertainty into words that we can digest, enjoy, and maybe even laugh at.

I balance character, wonder, and magic systems, allowing each to shape the other. I lean toward long-form high-fantasy epics, but enjoy tinkering in adjacent forms. I am learning about inclusion and trauma awareness through my writing. I want my readers to come away with a sense that no matter how dark things get there is hope, no matter how badly we’ve messed up we can make things better, and no matter how much pain there is, there is always room for joy.

I draw inspiration from many writers, including Brandon Sanderson, Mary Robinette Kowal, Howard Tayler, Dan Wells, Tad Williams, Patrick Rothfuss, Chris Wooding, Scott Lynch, Andy Weir, Robin McKinley, and Anne McCaffery. Of course, I love and cherish Grandpa Tolkien and his contemporaries, like George MacDonald, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Dorothy L. Sayers.

When I'm not writing I'm spending time with my family, enjoying a video game, trying to revive my martial arts practice, or being whisked away by a madman in a blue box.

AI Statement

In light of the changes and challenges of today, I feel it's important to explain my stance on the use of generative AI in the creative sphere. This site used to have AI images that I made to capture the mood of my story. I've since removed any AI from this project.

I have a bit of a nuanced take on the subject, which I may outline elsewhere. For now, AI has no place in my work.
